“Sweet Halloween CTR and Costume Contest”

Hatchet Valley Farms is located in the red rolling hills of Central Alabama with miles of frontage along
scenic Hatchet Creek. This facility has been providing trail riding for 18 years and has hosted NATRC’s
prestigious Championship Challenge. Footing is variable and can be rocky. Shoes are recommended.
There is good water along the trail for horses, and much of the ride will be in the shade.
The ride will be over a marked trail within a specific time period to evaluate horse and rider. This is not
a race. Distance conditioning, safety, equitation, trail manners and ability, way of going, soundness,
and teamwork, as well as safety and care in camp are all part of the competition.
Primitive camping is provided in a rolling pasture (bring leveling blocks); drinking water is available but
not abundant enough to bathe or hose horses. Pets need to be confined or on leashes.
General Requirements: A saddle is required, with no restrictions as to type. All riders must wear
helmets when mounted. Junior riders must ride with a participating sponsor Boots that cover the
coronary band are not permitted, nor are wraps, bandages, medicines, or drugs. Drug testing may be
conducted. Stallions must be in control at all times, double tied, and ridden only by an adult. Riders
must care for their own mounts while in competition. Horses may be tied to trailers, hi-ties, or
stationary tied on picket lines.
Ride notes: Check-in begins Friday 22nd. at 2:00 PM; vet-in starts 3:00 PM. All riders must come to
briefings Friday and Saturday nights. The awards ceremony for one-day competitors will occur Saturday
evening and for two-day competitors on Sunday as soon as possible after vet-out.
There will be potluck dinners for everyone Friday and Saturday. Volunteers will be well fed.

Take I-65 south to exit 205. Take US Hwy. 31 south approx. 4 miles to AL Hwy 22. Turn left, go 20

FROM SOUTH:
Take I-65 north to exit 200. Turn right on CR 59 and go about 4 miles, through Verbena to stop/T on
US Hwy 31. Turn left, north, and go about 1.5 miles to AL Hwy 22. Turn right, go 20 miles and then
turn left on CR 18 at cemetery. Go 0.8 miles and take right fork on CR 95. Follow signs to

From ATLANTA:
Take I20 west to exit 199 at Heflin. Follow AL Hwy. 9 approximately 65 miles south through Lineville,
Ashland, and Goodwater on to caution light at intersection with AL Hwy 22. Turn east, right, and go 8
miles to Rockford. Continue straight after 4-way stop and turn right on CR 18 at cemetery. Go 0.8

Class costs include camping and trail fees: Novice/CP/Open A Ride: $100 NATRC Members, $120 non-
members. Novice/CP B ride $90 NATRC members, $110 non-members. $10 discount if you have
