Location Troy, Alabama, Heart of Dixie Trail ride offers miles of picturesque
trails through Alabama’s woodlands. Among our trails you may enjoy the shade
of chirping pine thickets and hardwood giants, the scenery of beautiful
pastures, bubbling streams, and quiet duck ponds, not to mention the company
of the lovely Conecuh River
Direction: From Mobile Area: On 65 North get off at Greenville, exit 130
and take state route 10 east through Luverne to Troy. From 231 turn right off
the northbound lane or left off the southbound lane onto Three Notch St.
(Traffic light at Kentucky Fried Chicken). Go straight, 3.5 miles, thru
downtown Troy( eight traffic lights) and continue to leave the city limits.
The next light is a blinking caution light, turn left onto County Rd.
7708/Needmore Rd. (there will be a HDTR sign). Go 4 miles and HDTR is on the
right.
From Atlanta, Birmingham: Take exit 9 off I-85 onto Taylor Road. Go South on
Taylor Road for about 5 ˝ miles to Hwy 231. Turn left (South) on 231 for
approximately 21 miles to Meriweather Trail. Meriweather Trail is about 1
miles south of Sikes and Kohn’s clothing store on the right. The turn is just
past an abandon Rest Stop. Turn left on Meriweather Trail. Go about 5 miles.
Turn right onto Hwy 49. There will be a NATRC at the turn. Go 3/10 of a mile
and turn left. There will be another sign there. Go about 10 miles and the
HOD will be on you left.
Camping: All sites are electric with water hookups. Horses are not allowed
in established camp areas at any time. Horses will be in open covered
stalls. There is a large in-ground swimming pool on site. Horse and people
water, horse wash racks, and air-conditioned showers are provided. Pets must
be kept on leash at all times when not in trailers or pens. There is also a
horse swimming area behind the campground. Please call Heart of Dixie 334-670-
