Ride Information
SPRINGTIME at BILTMORE 2010 COMPETITIVE TRAIL RIDE Sanctioned by the North American Trail Ride Conference (NATRC) April 10-11, 2010 ASHEVILLE, NORTH CAROLINA **Type A Ride: Open/CP/Novice ** Type B Ride: Novice only **RIDER LIMIT 55** On-line registration is available at www.natrc5.org with on-line payment through Pay Pal, however, you must contact Connie Driskell in advance if you intend to use the Pay Pal payment option. Location: The ride covers 90+ miles of forest trails/jeep roads, w/moderate ascents/descents, creek crossings & off trail watering holes through natural hardwood/pine forests in the center of the elegant Biltmore Estate. It is an experience you will never forget. Daytime temps are typically in the 60’s,and night time temperatures are typically in the 40’s this time of year. Directions: From Interstate 40, use Exit 50. Follow signs to Biltmore Estate. Stay in FAR LEFT LANE. From Interstate 26, take I-40 EAST. Use Exit 50, same as above. Entrance to Biltmore Estate is on the left. Check in with Officer on duty, then follow “Trail Ride” or “BEEC” signs to camp. Trailer access is ONLY through the Biltmore Estate Front Gate. Camping: Primitive, in a flat pasture**NO electrical hook-ups**No generators after 10pm or before 5am (BEEC Rule) **No open fires; charcoal grills OK**City water serves entire camp. Bring your horse grain & hay. Bring your own wheelbarrow or muck bucket. All dogs must be kept on leashes unless inside your trailer/camper/pen ** No dogs or smoking on the trails. Meals: All meals will be on your own. **Many restaurants within 3 miles of camp****All 2 day volunteers will be provided Friday and Saturday supper at no charge. You must declare to Connie your intent to eat with the Volunteers no later than March 30th, otherwise you will not be included on the Volunteer meal lists. Ride Notes: There can be NO walk-ins. All riders, non-riders and workers must be pre-registered (Contact ride manager for grounds passes details and costs, if applicable.) Check-in/Vet-in for all riders begins Fri April 9th at ~1:30 pm. Equestrian Helmets must be worn at all times when mounted, whether in competition or not, anywhere on Biltmore Property. Ride Distances: **2 day Open ~52 mi @5+mph** CP ~40 mi @4+ mph** 2 day Novice ~40 mi@4+mph ** 1-day Novice~23 mi on Sat.@ 4+mph. An ORIGINAL negative Coggins within 1 year is required. Health certificates are advised. Sliding tethers, picket lines, stationary ties & high-lines are all allowed. Portable corrals are not allowed for competitors. CP and Novice will be timed such that both Divisions will be able to ride together this year. Fees: 1-day Novice: NATRC Members, adults $125, juniors $80; Non-Members, adults $145, juniors $100** 2-Day Riders: NATRC Members, adults $145, juniors $100; Non- Members, adults $165, juniors $120** (All Registration fees include ~$75.00/rider which is paid to Biltmore as trail use fees/tent/arena rent & camping fees, etc). Add $15.00 late fee if payment is post-marked AFTER 03-25- 10, but before 3-30-10. FULL on-line payment is required if registered after 03-29-10 but BEFORE 04-01-10. Any registration changes, whatsoever, made after April 1st will be subject to a $10.00 fee assessment for information changes. Minimum Non-refundable Deposit is $55.00.
