NATIONAL TRAILS DAY This is just a reminder for the riders who are not in Tennessee for the weekend. This weekend coming up is National Trails Day, the one day in the year when trail users of all varied interests from hiking and biking to trail riding, can get together as one cooperating group to celebrate our trails. National Trails Day was established in 1993 by the American Hiking Society, and has expanded to several thousand events across the country this year. Some of these include trail openings, trail seminars, hikes and rides and, of course trail maintenance. Some of the programs are involved with the National Trails System, a movement to eventually connect all the major park, forest and greenway trails together like an interstate highway. To see what is offered in your area, just call the park office, greenway, or national forest headquarters close to you. Also, you might get a small group of riders together as a work party. It is important to let these trails managers know that horse people are an important group of trail users, and can contribute to the planning and maintenance of our precious and limited trails. It is important to show up and be seen, or be ligislated out or ignored by those planning the trails. Thanks and Happy Trails Mike Bridges Chairman Trails Development Committee
